DIY: Tin Can Vase
6:00:00 PMI've had this metal container sitting on top of the refrigerator for some time now. I picked it up the last time I was at target, but I ended up not liking the contents. I knew I wanted to save the container for a future project, and I finally figured out what that project would be!
I've been trying to find and create pieces to go on the bookshelf we've been eyeing and I knew this would fit perfectly! I can't wait to show you how it all comes together in our home tour!
- Glue
- Brush
- Book pages
- Scissors
- Can
- Water
- Bowl or cup
- Filler (flowers, tools, pencils, etc)
- Ribbon/twine (optional)
- Hot glue gun (optional)
1. The first thing that I did was mix glue and water into a container. You'll have to pour a little of each until you get the look of the mixture above.
2. Next, I ripped out three pages from a dollar store book, and cut them to fit the can.
3. You will then need to coat the can in the glue with a brush.
4. After the entire can is coated in glue, I began placing the pages on the can. You will need to add a little bit of extra glue for overlapping pages.
5. Once the glue has dried, you will add another layer of glue on top of the pages. It will act as a sealant. If you want to speed up the drying process, you can use a hair dryer.
That's all! This five step tin can vase is a super simple and cost effective project. You can dress it up with twine and flowers like I did or you can even screw them into a wooden board to hold craft supplies!
I hope you liked this tutorial! I plan on posting a lot more of them. I'm always interested in hearing what other tutorials you'd be interested in seeing on the blog! Just let me know in the comments!
