I Broke One of My Top Spoonie Rules

6:00:00 PM

I'm not happy about it, but it's true. I broke one of my top spoonie rules and I've got mixed feelings about it.

One of the biggest rules about being a spoonie, is knowing your body and your limits. If I know I have plans, I try to avoid activities the day before and the day after those plans. I broke that rule this week and it'll happen again next week too.

Yesterday was a pretty big day for me. We had to drive to Georgia for a doctors appointment, then preregister at the hospital. We went and picked out our dining room set and then went to lunch. After driving back to Alabama, I had another doctors appointment. Once we finally got home, we had to build our seven piece dining room set and the new kitty condo.

Last week, I made plans with the wives to go to lunch and get a pedicure. My body told me to cancel those plans today, but I didn't listen. I know that I should have used the day to rest, but I didn't want to.

As a spoonie, I frequently have to break plans and I always feel extremely guilty about it. I hadn't seen the other wives, in what seemed like months, and I really just wanted to have a day out of the house with them. I've been meaning to get a pedicure for the last few weeks, but I used the money to buy myself a birthday present instead. My husband convinced me that I should go with them, so that's what I did.

I wasn't feeling all that great this morning, but I got up and showered anyways. I even shaved my legs, which is a pretty big accomplishment in itself. Normally, I can't even make it through a normal shower without a glass of water and a granola bar. I even took it two steps further! In an effort to hide how I was feeling, I exerted myself more and curled my hair and even put on makeup. I normally do those things twice a year. I just really wanted to hide the rash from my Lupus and the, oh so obvious, exhaustion in my face. I should have known I was doing too much, but I was determined to go out.

I'm honestly surprised out how well my body held up today. I really think that getting to bed early last night is the main reason. My CPAP said I got over 9.5 hours of sleep! If you know me, that's highly unusual. However, the sleep helped me get through today; so for that, I am grateful.

I actually did more today than I had planned to. I met the wives at El Patron for lunch at noon. Then we ended up heading to Target. That of course led to getting Starbucks and walking around the entire store. We then made our way to Hobby Lobby. After that, we finally got the pedicures we planned on getting. The nail salon was our final trip! Once our nails finally dried, we said our goodbyes and headed home.

On the way home, I realized we hadn't set anything out for dinner. That then of course led to eating out. We probably should have ordered in, but we went out for a nice dinner instead. I'm not sure how, but my legs are still working. Usually by this time, my legs are giving out with every step that I take. When I was at the nail salon, I upgraded my pedicure to a deluxe. I think that is what really worked! It included a french pedicure, sugar scrub, lotion, leg massage, hot towels, and even a hot stone massage. That combined with the massage chair was absolute heaven. I'm sure it won't last long, but I feel great!

This is why I have mixed feelings towards breaking one of my cardinal rules. I'm feeling pretty good right this second, but I'm 99.9% sure tomorrow is going to suck. I had two very strenuous days back to back and I didn't give myself time to relax. What's worse is, I've got appointments almost every day next week. I normally only schedule 1 or 2 max, but it just couldn't be avoided. Every single appointment is important and I know I need to go to each and every one of them.

Hopefully I'm able to get plenty of sleep tonight. Then I'll be hoping and praying my body forgives me in time for next week!
